I have a confession to make.  I have not been waking up like I’m supposed to.  ::hangs head in shame::  I’ve been staying up late watching Lost Girl on Netflix and Falling Skies on Amazon.  ::sniffle::  I’ve been trading my dreams for television and that is not an even trade.  My fiance (It feels totally strange calling someone my fiance) likes to stay up and watch television.  At first, I was able to ignore him and get to bed by ten, but lately I’ve been staying up with him.  We run around all day and sometimes the only time we spend together is the hour or two before we fall asleep.  So that is my excuse. What am I going to do about it?

Option 1: Move my bedtime to 11 pm and wake up at 6 am instead of 5, which would give me one and half hours of writing time.  One and half hours is not enough time.

Option 2.  Go to bed at 11 pm and adapt to 6 hours of sleep.  That is not very healthy.  I exercise too much for only six hours of sleep.

Well shoot. I really don’t have any options.  I have to get to bed by 10 pm and wake my ass up.  Am I choosing writing over quality time with my honey?  No.  Being in bed by 10 pm was a requirement I had when we first met.  I’m using “quality time” as an excuse to feed the addictive habit I’ve had since I was kid: staying up late to watch TV.  I love laying in and bed and watching TV with my honey, but my relationship won’t fail because I chose to go to bed at 10 pm instead of 11.

I have a full time job and two kids.  My morning writing times are important.  So for the month of July I’m going to challenge myself to wake every weekday by 5 AM.  As part of this challenge, I’m going to post my time to twitter and lift.do….  I need to find a corresponding hashtag for it.   #wakeby5am, maybe?
