Think and Grow Rich
Source
So I
started reading Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill a few months ago.  As I mentioned before… it was a dry read-I need
to get it on audiotape.  But from what I
did read, there was some nuggets.  Here
is one:
The
desire for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent by six steps
1.       Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you
desire.  It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of
money.”
I will make 20,000 this year
by signing my first book deal.
2.       Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for
the money you desire.  There is no such reality as something for
nothing.
Time.  Time is
important to me.  I will give up as much time as possible and still have
a  a life.
3.       Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the
money you desire.
By December 31, 2012
4.       Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and
begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action
Plan:  Practice writing short stories and submit one short story per month.  Start querying the
novel on July 15 to agents.
5.       Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of
money you intend to acquire, what you intend to give in return for the money and
describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
I will make $20,000 by the
end of the year by securing my first book deal and I will give the book my time
and patience.  I will work on my craft by writing one short story
every month and sending out the novel by July 15.
For the past
three months, I’ve said the above statement every morning and night..I’ve only
written two short stories, but I’ve been submitting them every month over the
past three months.   I’ve missed my
deadline on querying for an agent.  I
don’t feel like I should submit anything to an agent until I’ve let someone see
the complete novel.  I should have
it critiqued in one month and then completely edited within another month.  So I’m thinking my deadline for agent
querying will be October 15, which will have me finished before NaNoWriMo and
still give me time to make $20,000 by the end of the year.
The New statement… that I’m going to post on my computer and in my bathroom:
I will make $20,000 by the end of the year by securing my first book deal and I will give the book my time and patience.  I will work on my craft by SUBMITTING one short story every month, and sending out the novel by OCTOBER 15.
